MARILYN
MONROE PAINTINGS - HOMAGE TO NORMA JEANE
Giclée Reproductions by Concetta Coyne
| After moving to Hilton Head Island in June 2004, I realized I had found
my place to create in an inviting artistic community and had been given
an opportunity to give back as I have been so generously given in talent
and meeting good people. A small portion of any future sales will
be donated to various charities. Most of my commissions have been
portraits of children in pastels. My move to Hilton Head inspired me to
resume portrait painting in oils, my first love and my specialty.
Last
April I saw a black and white photo of Marilyn Monroe and the idea was
born. She would be my model. Marilyn's glamour and tragic life always
captured my imagination. After the completion of my first large oil of
Marilyn last May, I took the advice of friends and family to do a
series. Painting her face over and over, I not only became more
attracted to her beautiful image but I also began to sense the
vulnerability of a lost inner child searching to be loved. She was so
much more than her outer beauty. As you view the images of Marilyn on
the surface of my giclées, my wish is that the inner beauty of Norma
Jean will touch you in some special way as she has touched me.

Marilyn Monroe
Born as Norma Jeane Mortenson in L.A. on June 1st, 1926, her mother, Gladys,
listed her father's address as unknown. Because of her mother's mental
illness, Norma Jeane grew up in a foster home, playing "pretend" and
idolizing Jean Harlow. By the spring of 1945, she had appeared on 33 covers
of national magazines. Her acting career spanned 16 years. Of her 29 films,
24 were made in the first 8 years of her career. She was considered "a
forceful actress, a gifted new star, worthy of all the press coverage". Her
role in
"Niagra" in 1952, established her stardom. In spite of her fame and beauty,
her use of sleeping pills over the years wrecked havoc with her health and
ultimately took her life. Marilyn died alone on August 2, 1962.
